On March 18, Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko criticized the implementation of the federal project "Improving the Volga River" and called for those responsible for the ineffectiveness of the initiative to be identified.

The reason for the statement was the report of the head of the Accounts Chamber Boris Kovalchuk, who said that in Kineshma, Ivanovo region, sewage was not carried out to the built water treatment facilities from the neighboring town of Navoloka, which is why the facilities are not working.

"Why do we allocate money that is simply buried and does not work? Let's see who in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment is dealing with this topic, how they allocate money, how they control who signed (the permit for commissioning — ed.), by the way, for these sewage treatment plants that are not working," Matvienko said, the broadcast was published on the SF website.
