Vera Revyakina, Professor, MD, Head of the Department of Allergology at the FITZ Nutrition and Biotechnology, told us which foods can increase allergies in the spring. In conversation with aif.ru On Wednesday, March 18, she noted that with the beginning of snowmelt, the first symptoms of pollen allergy appear.

In Central Russia, willow is the first to react, followed by alder, whose pollen spreads easily and causes symptoms from the respiratory tract, eyes and skin, including itching and rashes. Birch remains one of the most common allergens, which usually blooms in May-June, but with a warm spring, the reaction can begin as early as March-April.

According to the expert, during flowering, symptoms often worsen due to cross-allergy: the body reacts not only to pollen, but also to foods with similar proteins. For example, if you are allergic to birch, you may react to apples, carrots, nuts, celery, soy and other foods. The doctor explained that the immune system recognizes similar protein structures and triggers a reaction.

Revyakina noted that it is better to exclude such products during flowering, although the reaction does not occur in all patients. The opposite situation is also possible: even without a pronounced reaction to pollen, the use of "cross" products can provoke symptoms. She also recalled the latex-fruit syndrome, in which latex allergy is associated with a reaction to avocado, banana, chestnut and peach.

To accurately identify allergens, the doctor recommended undergoing modern component allergodiagnostics, which allows you to identify specific proteins that cause a reaction.

Earlier on March 18, doctor Vera Serezhina told Izvestia that the flowering season for patients with asthma often becomes a time of exacerbations, especially if other triggers are added to pollen allergies. In spring, asthma often worsens in people with allergies to pollen and fungal allergens. In this case, seizures can be provoked not only by them, but also by additional factors — temperature fluctuations, evaporation and other seasonal triggers.

At the same time, allergist Anna Usacheva, in an interview with RT, explained the harm of snowmelt for allergy sufferers. According to her, when snow melts, mold spores and dust enter the air, which can cause allergies. Microorganisms, including mold fungi, multiply in such an environment. Their spores rise into the air and enter the respiratory tract, according to RIAMO.

On March 17, allergist Oksana Shabalina, in an interview with 360.ru She noted that in sunny and dry weather, allergy sufferers should stay at home using air conditioning and an air purifier. It is recommended to wash your face several times during the day, and wash off pollen in the evening. Also, do not leave pillows at open windows — pollen settles on them, the website writes. kp.ru .

On March 14, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that seasonal allergies may worsen due to air pollution and climate change. According to the organization, this provokes an increase in inflammatory, allergic and respiratory diseases.
