Andrey Malgin, director of the Central Museum of Taurida, historian, told how Crimea preserves the memory of the day of reunification with Russia.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, March 18, he noted that after 2014, interest in the history of the region has grown noticeably and remains high: people are trying to comprehend the past and future of Crimea. Malgin noted that from the very first days the museum began to collect evidence of the "Crimean Spring" — from leaflets and newspapers to significant artifacts, and the collection continues to grow.

He also stressed that special attention is paid to the memory of the victims of the Great Patriotic War: Crimea lost about 100,000 civilians, and the restoration of historical memory took decades and influenced attitudes towards Nazism.

Speaking about modern events, Malgin noted their symbolism: "The Crimean Spring" is associated with renewal, therefore, on the anniversary, a tree planting campaign will be held at the memorial to the victims of the Nazi occupation.

Earlier on March 18, the chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, said that the residents of Crimea and Sevastopol in 2014, with their determination, thwarted the plans of "Western puppeteers and put a barrier to Bandera and Russophobia." She also thanked the Crimeans for being separated from their big homeland for many years against their will, writes RT. She noted the tremendous progress of the peninsula in recent years. According to her, with the help of all Russians, Crimea will continue to develop, the website reports. kp.ru .

Also on March 18, a historical excursion about Crimea was conducted for students in Voskresensk, Moscow region. The students of the Voskresensky College got acquainted with the history of Crimea and the key events of the region. The participants also watched videos about the sights of the peninsula and its development, notes 360.ru .

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with members of the government, said that the choice of Crimeans to be with Russia was unshakable, it had become one of the most important milestones in the country's history. The Russian leader also called the choice of the inhabitants of the peninsula, Donbass and Novorossiya to be with Russia a symbol of unity, will and unity of the entire multinational people of the country.

The agreement on the incorporation of the Republic of Crimea into Russia was signed on March 18, 2014 by President Vladimir Putin, the head of the region, Sergei Aksyonov, and politician Alexei Chaly, who later headed the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol. This was the result of the processes that began after the collapse of the USSR.
