The lawyer spoke about the punishment for growing poppies in the country
Summer residents in Russia can face up to eight years in prison for growing plants that contain narcotic or psychotropic substances. These include sleeping poppies, Hawaiian rose, and cannabis. This was announced on March 18 by Alexander Khaminsky, a lawyer and head of the law enforcement center in Moscow and the Moscow Region.
"If the fine for non-destruction of such plants reaches 4 thousand rubles, then for cultivation you can get administrative arrest for up to 15 days. Criminal liability under Article 231 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal cultivation of plants containing narcotic drugs or their psychotropic substances or their precursors") occurs if the number of plants qualifies as large or especially large," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
