WHO reported on preparations for a possible nuclear incident in the Middle East
World Health Organization (WHO) staff are preparing for a scenario involving the use of nuclear weapons or an attack on a nuclear facility amid conflict in the Middle East. This was announced on March 18 by Hanan Balkhi, Director of the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.
"The worst—case scenario is a nuclear incident, and that's what worries us the most. No matter how we prepare, nothing can prevent the damage that will be inflicted on the region and the whole world. If it does happen, the consequences will be felt for decades," she said in an interview with Politico newspaper.
