Zakharova called the new package of EU anti-Russian sanctions a crazy ritual
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the upcoming European Union (EU) sanctions against Russian citizens allegedly involved in the events in Bucha are a crazy ritual and a mockery of common sense. She announced this at a briefing on March 18.
"It is quite expected that in the framework of the next, already the twentieth, sanctions package, all this is a mockery of common sense. It's starting to look like some kind of crazy ritual. All the participants in this action are well aware of its complete isolation from real life, but they continue to persistently repeat them," the diplomat said.
Moscow has repeatedly rejected accusations of involvement in the tragedy in Bucha, calling them a provocation. Such sanctions have no real basis and cause damage, first of all, to the European countries themselves.
On March 16, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced the lack of progress in the adoption of the 20th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation. However, she did not disclose any details.
On March 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the EU in a video message due to the lack of progress in supporting Kiev. According to him, there is still no movement on the €90 billion aid package for Ukraine. Zelensky also added that the 20th package of sanctions remains blocked.
