The court refused to house arrest the wife of the ex-mayor of Sochi Kopaigorodsky

The Moscow Meshchansky court refused to transfer Yanina, the wife of former Sochi mayor Alexei Kopaigorodsky, to house arrest. This was announced on March 18 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

Kopaygorodskaya's defense asked to change the measure of restraint to house arrest so that Yanina could see young children.

Kopaigorodsky's wife was detained in November 2024, later placed under house arrest, and on March 6, 2025, she was transferred to a pre-trial detention center. At the same time, it became known that new episodes had appeared in the case.

In addition to charges of receiving four particularly large bribes, mediation in bribery (Articles 290 of the Criminal Code and 291.1 of the Criminal Code) and embezzlement (Article 160 of the Criminal Code), Kopaigorodsky is charged with committing three crimes under paragraph "b" of Part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code ("Legalization of funds or other property obtained by criminal means by way of").

The amount of funds legalized by the spouses exceeds 104 million rubles. Yanina is also accused of aiding and abetting witnesses. In addition, she is charged with forcing one of the witnesses under threat of harm to his health.

On January 14, the Prosecutor General's Office filed a lawsuit stating that Kopaygorodsky's family had found diamonds and 50 real estate objects. According to the investigation, from 2022 to 2024, Kopaygorodsky stole two plots of land in Sochi with a total value of at least 26 million rubles. On January 16, the Khostinsky district Court of Sochi satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation and seized the property of Kopaygorodsky and his family in favor of the state in the amount of about 1.6 billion rubles.

In November last year, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office approved a criminal indictment against Kopaigorodsky, his wife Yanina and assistant Alexander Pasunko. Kopaygorodsky was detained on September 25, 2024 in the special operation zone, where he had gone some time ago as a volunteer.

At the same time, he was arrested until November 18. The ex-mayor is charged with embezzlement of 3.7 million rubles, he pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is also being investigated for involvement in other crimes.
