Theatre

"Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk district", 16+

Directed by Alexander Titel. Conductor: Fyodor Lednev. Starring: Dmitry Ulyanov/Felix Kudryavtsev, Elena Guseva/Alexandra Zotova, Nazhmiddin Mavlyanov/Nikolai Erokhin.

In the year of the 120th anniversary of the birth of Dmitry Shostakovich, the Moscow Academic Musical Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky and V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko (MAMT) addresses "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk district" in the first edition. In 1934, Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko released this opera on stage under the name "Katerina Izmailova" to emphasize its difference from the literary basis. The production was groundbreaking for its time and was a huge success, but was banned two years later. A new reading of the original highlights the sharpness and tension of Katerina Lvovna's story, viewing it not only as a personal tragedy, but also as a reflection on passion, power, and moral choice.

On March 20, 21 and 22, MAMT

"Faust", 16+

Directed by Andrey Timoshenko. Starring: Evgeny Knyazev, Vladimir Logvinov, Maria Volkova, Dmitry Mulyar, Vitaly Ivanov, Evgenia Ivashova, Alexandra Streltsina, Olga Borovskaya, Artem Parkhomenko, Sergey Vasiliev.

The play "Faust" directed by the chief director of the Arkhangelsk Drama Theater is the first appearance of the work by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe on the stage of the Evgeny Vakhtangov Theater. The director was invited to the capital specifically to work on the play.

March 21 and 22, Evgeny Vakhtangov Theater, Main Stage

"Illusion", 16+

Directed by Marina Brusnikina. Starring: Viktor Panchenko, Alexey Myasnikov, Semyon Shestakov, Andrey Laptev/Ivan Yurov, Alexey Blokhin, Daria Semenova/Maria Denisova.

Director Marina Brusnikina takes Pierre Corneille's almost forgotten comedy and plays it with the concept of "theater within a theater," intertwining themes of magic, love, betrayal, and family values. The play, despite its Baroque aesthetics and poetic form, explores issues of conflict between fathers and children, opposition to tradition and youth rebellion that are relevant to the 21st century, and also encourages people to think about the boundaries between fiction and reality.

March 20 and 27, RAMT

"MAMMA IS PASSING BY! or the Musical went wrong", 12+

Directed by Anna Shevchuk. Starring: Sergey Fedyushkin, Alexander Babik, Alexander Matrosov, Anna Karmakova, Yulia Churakova, Pavel Levkin, Nikita Smolyaninov.

A witty parody of the famous Broadway musical, in which the audience witnesses the most chaotic behind-the-scenes preparation in the history of the theater. The boss of a provincial factory decides to surprise his wife and orders a local director to stage her favorite musical, Mamma Mia! The troupe enthusiastically sets to work, but soon it turns out that the sponsor has very original views on art. Besides, on the day of the premiere, everything goes awry.: The leading actress ends up in the hospital, and an inept debutante replaces her, the lyrics and music have to be changed on the fly, and a new role is urgently introduced for the patron's mother-in-law. The performance turns into a hilarious mess, where improvisation is the only chance to save the show.

From March 18 to 22 and from March 24 to March 29, the Mask Theater

"The Golden Key, or...", 6+

Directed by Ivan Pachin. Starring: Margarita Bychkova, Elena Simonova, Elizaveta Nilova, Rodion Prikhodko, Ivan Vasiliev, Bogdan Gudymenko, Konstantin Demidov, Yuri Ershov.

The play is a parable about theater and growing up. The action begins with a simple and symbolic choice: a wooden boy changes his alphabet for a theater ticket and finds himself in an unfamiliar world with its own laws and secrets. Here he is greeted by recognizable but reinterpreted characters — the cunning filmmakers Alice the Fox and Basilio the Cat, as well as the majestic opera legend Tortoise Tortilla. Playwright Polina Korotych, based on the text by Alexei Tolstoy, created an independent play that asks questions: can a child influence the world, what is growing up and who are teachers. The ellipsis in the title of the production hints that it offers its own reading.

On March 22 and 23, V.F. Komissarzhevskaya Academic Drama Theater (Saint Petersburg)
