Ulyanov stressed the danger of a new strike on the Bushehr NPP
The possibility of a new strike on the territory of the Bushehr NPP cannot be ruled out, which creates the risk of a major catastrophe. This was announced on March 18 by Russia's Permanent Representative to the international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov.
"I'm not sure what the Agency's (IAEA) reaction is. — Ed.) corresponds to the seriousness of the situation. The rocket exploded just 200 meters from the operating nuclear reactor. The possibility of a new strike cannot be ruled out. This creates a real risk of a major nuclear disaster that could seriously affect the entire region," Ulyanov wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
On the eve of the general director of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev said that the attack on the territory of the Bushehr NPP was carried out near the operating power unit. According to him, this is the first recorded strike on the territory of the nuclear power plant since the beginning of the conflict between the American-Israeli forces and Iran.
Political analyst Dmitry Bridge noted on March 18 that the likelihood of repeated attacks near the Iranian Bushehr nuclear power plant (NPP) remains high amid the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. According to him, the very fact of a shell falling in the area of the nuclear infrastructure, even without consequences for the radiation background and the victims, is an alarming signal.
At the same time, economist and political scientist Vasily Koltashov told Izvestia that the United States is striving to destroy Iran's nuclear policy, but Washington's plans do not aim to destroy the Bushehr nuclear power plant, and the damage from the conflict in the Middle East region is monstrously devastating for the Western economy.
