The international action "Garden of Memory" started in Sevastopol
The seventh season of the annual international action "Garden of Memory", which is dedicated to the heroes who fell during the Great Patriotic War (WWII), has started in Sevastopol. Izvestia publishes footage from the event on March 18.
"When planting a plant, everyone who participates in the campaign remembers their ancestor, their neighbor, their close relative and thereby honors them, gives them a new life," said Andrey Tikhomirov, head of the Directorate of Specially Protected Natural Territories of Regional Importance in Sevastopol and Forestry.
The event takes place in the mountainous area of Balaklava district. Those who took part in the action sang the anthem of Sevastopol, and were also charged with positive emotions. Those involved in the planting of trees came to the place of the action by families, collectives and associations.
At the same time, a ceremony of laying flowers to the Eternal Flame was held at the memorial in honor of the heroes of the second defense of Sevastopol, accompanied by an orchestra. It was attended by representatives of regional authorities, dioceses and public organizations.
"What happened 12 years ago is a historic event that defined the modern history of our country. This story began here, in Sevastopol. Today is a historic day when President [of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin] signed, without exaggeration, a historic decree on the creation of two new subjects: the Republic of Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol within the Russian Federation," said Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev.
At the same time, the first events within the framework of the campaign were held in other cities. So, the seedlings were planted on the territory of the National University in Lao Vientiane. Representatives of the Russian Embassy and the local Russian House, as well as the leadership of a higher educational institution and regional military structures, including the heads of the K. Fomvikhan Military Medical Academy, took part in the Memorial Garden.
The Russian diplomatic mission was represented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Sergey Hardy and Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo Representative Office Alexander Radkov. All the listed individuals have planted mango trees.
This summer, the first nationwide vote will be held in Russia, in which participants will be asked to select the top 100 rare species of flora and fauna for their subsequent protection. As specified on March 16, the event will be held within the framework of the "Together for Wildlife" project, which in turn is aimed at uniting society and forming a culture of conscious and responsible attitude towards the national nature.
