Alexey Goncharov, acting Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Trans-Baikal Territory, resigned after an accident involving him, in which a woman died last summer. He announced this on March 18 in his Telegram channel.

"Unfortunately, the person who died in an accident cannot be returned to me. I have decided to resign. The corresponding statement was signed by the governor. I would not like the negative background in connection with this criminal case to spread to the government of the Trans-Baikal Territory and to the governor. March 19 is the last working day," the publication says.

Goncharov also added that he would continue to work in the interests of the Trans-Baikal Territory.

A fatal accident involving Goncharov occurred in the Uletovsky district of the Trans-Baikal Territory on the evening of July 21 on the Irkutsk—Chita federal highway. The Mercedes Benz driver, who turned out to be Goncharov, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a Toyota Fielder. As a result of the accident, a Toyota passenger born in 1978 died in the hospital. A criminal case has been opened on this fact under Part 3 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of traffic rules resulting in the death of a person by negligence).
