The US national debt has surpassed the $39 trillion mark for the first time. This became known on March 18 from the data of the unofficial public debt monitoring portal US Debt Clock.

According to data provided by the US Treasury Department, the sovereign debt of the United States for the first time exceeded $38 trillion on October 21 last year. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, as of March 18, the figure reached $38.994 trillion.

At the same time, data from the online debt tracking scoreboard shows that the indicator has exceeded a new mark and continues to grow, already amounting to $39.003 trillion.

As of March 12, Izvestia learned that the US national debt had increased by about $133 billion over the 12 days of the conflict with Iran and approached $38.9 trillion. In per capita terms, foreign debt increased by $800 for every American.

Evgeny Shatov, a partner at Capital Lab, told Izvestia on February 26 that rising U.S. government debt could increase risks to the global financial system and weaken the dollar if investor confidence in the United States' obligations decreases.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
