The United States seeks to destroy Iran's nuclear policy, but Washington has no plans to destroy the Bushehr nuclear power plant, and the damage caused by the conflict in the Middle East region is monstrously devastating for the Western economy. This was reported to Izvestia on March 18 by economist and political scientist Vasily Koltashov.

"The United States has no goal now to destroy the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Of course, they still have the task of destroying Iran's nuclear policy of any kind. <… > This conflict is proving to be enormously destructive for the Western economy," the political scientist noted.

According to Koltashov, Washington wants to hinder the implementation of the peaceful atom and the cooperation of the Islamic Republic with Russia. Despite this, the administration of American leader Donald Trump is trying to "find the weak spot" of Iran in order to bring the country to negotiations and resolve the conflict as soon as possible.

The economist stressed that Iran is a "zone of the American rear," from where 50% of nitrogen fertilizers and a large amount of hydrocarbons come to the world market, while export revenue, amounting to 30% of the world's hydrocarbons, goes to the American stock market. At the same time, this system is currently rapidly collapsing.

In addition, the political scientist pointed out that Trump is putting pressure on Iran and assessing where and how the country will "psychologically break down." At the same time, Iran itself wants to continue defending the Bushehr NPP in order not to stop fighting, since this is a "matter of life and death" for the Iranian side in the conflict with the United States.

However, Koltashov added that the republic does not need interim deals with the United States — it insists on complete de-Americanization and demilitarization of the region.

On March 17, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran reported that an enemy shell had hit the territory of Bushehr. It was noted that the station was not damaged.

On the same day, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), expressed serious concerns about the safety of the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran amid the escalating conflict in the Middle East. He noted that in the current situation, it is necessary to take into account the possible consequences of attacks.

Political scientist Andrey Suzdaltsev said on March 13 that the United States' victory in Iran is possible in two ways: either the United States will launch a ground operation to seize the Bushehr nuclear power plant, or launch a nuclear strike. According to the expert, both scenarios dramatically change the global positioning and are fraught with an escalation of the nuclear conflict.
