The captain of the Omsk Avangard hockey team has broken the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) performance record among defensemen. This became known on March 17.

"On Tuesday, March 17, a 30-year-old Russian made an assist in a regular season match against Dinamo Minsk. Sharipzyanov became the first defender in the history of the league, who managed to score 66 points in one season, "— stated in the material of the portal "Sport-Express".

The previous record for a season's performance among KHL defensemen was held by Chris Lee, who scored 65 points in the 2016-17 season at Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

On the same day, Severstal defeated Ak Bars in the KHL match. The game ended with a score of 4:2. It was noted that defender Vladimir Grudinin scored two points from Severstal, defender Nikita Kamalov and forwards Danil Veryaev and Alexander Skorenov also scored.
