- The political scientist assessed the threat of a third world War due to the conflict over Iran
The Middle East is currently one of the most explosive regions, and the conflict over Iran poses the threat of a third world war. Konstantin Blokhin, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences, and an American political scientist, said this on Tuesday, March 17.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that the US attack on Iran helped prevent World War III.
Blokhin also noted that against the background of the current instability in the region, a global conflict could begin.
He said that in 1997, in the book "The Great Chessboard", an "arc of instability" was drawn, where the Middle East was called the new Balkans. The American recalled that it was precisely because of the Balkans that the First World War began.
"There's a domino principle here. Iran opposes the United States and Israel formally, but in order to weaken the interests of the United States, it strikes at Arab states. That is, Iran is immediately against, relatively speaking, the United States, Israel and the Arabs. Iran is a strategic partner of <...> China. The weakening of Iran will weaken China's geopolitical position," the expert explained in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
He added that the formal ally of the United States is the European Union (EU), to which there are claims, as someone hesitates, and someone opposes the actions of the Americans. In addition, other countries, such as Japan, receive oil from the Middle East.
Blokhin noted that there is a whole tangle of problems here, and it is obvious that it is not so easy to cut it, so in this case everything depends on the political will of the leadership of other states. They should not be provoked, and if no one restrains themselves, all this can lead to a global conflict, Blokhin concluded.
Earlier it became known that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used the advanced HAJ-QASEM ballistic missile for the first time in combat conditions. The targets of the Iranian missiles were facilities in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, as well as the port infrastructure of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), according to the website. kp.ru .
On the same day, US President Donald Trump announced that the military operation against Iran could be completed in the near future, RT reports. At the same time, the American leader noted that the United States is not yet ready to withdraw troops against Iran, but this will happen "in the very near future."
On March 17, the IRGC announced that during the 55th wave of attacks on Israel and US bases, Iran had hit Tel Aviv, Ben Gurion Airport and Israel Aerospace Industries military production centers with superheavy ballistic and hypersonic missiles.
