Old and broken buses need to be removed from the streets of Russian cities. This was announced on March 17 by the Chairman of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko.

According to the head of the Federation Council, many private public transport operators make significant profits, but they do not invest in upgrading equipment and allow staff to treat passengers rudely.

"Buckets with nails should be banned and immediately removed from all cities. <...> The buses are broken, broken, old, and so on," she said during an open dialogue with Russian Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin in the Federation Council.

Recognizing the importance of a market economy, Matvienko said that conditions should be created only for bona fide entrepreneurs.

As a systemic solution, she proposed to consolidate the state presence in the industry by creating a regional transport company in each Russian region. This, according to Matvienko, will ensure proper quality and safety control of transportation, which receives a large number of complaints from the public.

Russian President Vladimir Putin continues work on the renovation of public transport in the regions on March 4. He added that the development of the transport fleet is one of the main tasks. Anton Alikhanov, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, said that the capacities of eight Russian manufacturers make it possible to produce up to 45 thousand of all types of buses annually.
