Szijjarto pointed to the possibility of Europe returning oil from Russia
The European Union (EU) could return oil supplies from Russia, but it is moving in the opposite direction. This was announced on March 17 by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto.
"We cannot influence the development of the war in the Middle East, but the European Union may decide to allow the return of Russian oil to the European market. But unfortunately, the movement is going in the opposite direction," Szijjarto said.
He noted that due to the political decisions of the EU, the countries of the union were cut off from two of the most important sources of oil. Oil from the Middle East stopped coming because of the war, while, according to him, Europe refused Russian oil on its own.
On the eve of the European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen said that the European Commission (EC) plans to submit a proposal to lift the exception that allowed Slovakia and Hungary to import oil from Russia. He noted that all countries should prepare for the ban on imports from Russia.
On the same day, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Szijjarto announced that Budapest and Bratislava had decided to build a new product pipeline that would ensure interstate energy security in the face of the Ukrainian oil blockade. The project involves the creation of a 127 km trench, which will be able to transport 1.5 million tons of petroleum products. It was planned to implement the plan by the first half of next year.
