Turkey's position on the non-recognition of Crimea as Russian territory speaks to Ankara's double standards. This was announced on March 17 by Sergey Tsekov, First deputy head of the Crimean parliament.

He noted that the Turkish Foreign Ministry, with its provocative statements, wishes the Crimeans a "worse fate," as it was under Ukraine.

"Such provocative and biased statements say that Turkey is not a friend of Crimea and demonstrates double standards," Tsekov said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

He stressed that the Crimean referendum fully complied with the norms of international law, and called it a manifestation of the will of the inhabitants of the peninsula. The parliamentarian stressed that Crimea is a legitimate part of Russia.

"And statements about the peninsula's status are interference in internal affairs," Tsekov concluded.

The day before, the Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it recalled its non-recognition of the annexation of Crimea to the Russian Federation. The ministry also said it would closely monitor developments on the peninsula.

The head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, said on March 14 that Crimea would face annihilation as part of Ukraine, but reunification with Russia prevented this. In his opinion, the referendum that took place in Crimea in 2014 can be called an example of solving regional problems, as well as a lesson to the organizers of coups.

Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the peninsula's inhabitants voted for reunification with the Russian Federation. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the residents of Crimea democratically voted for reunification in full accordance with international law and the issue of the peninsula's ownership is finally closed.
