The Ministry expressed concern about the growing tension around Cuba and increased pressure from outside. They also stressed that the Cuban people are able to independently defend the right to sovereign development. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, amid threats from US President Donald Trump to commit an "unfriendly takeover" of Cuba, expressed strong support to the Cuban people on March 12. He stressed that Moscow's position on the issue of the inappropriateness of Washington's economic and political pressure on Havana is fundamental.
