Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Head of the Republic of Karelia Leonid Parfenchikov signed a cooperation agreement between the two regions for the next five years. Sobyanin spoke about the development of relations with the Republic of Karelia in his channel in the messenger of the MAX.

According to the mayor of the capital, the agreement provides for further development of cooperation in trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural spheres. Currently, the regions are already linked by long-standing partnerships, primarily in the field of trade and economic cooperation. Karelia receives cars, fuel oil, ready-rolled ferrous metals, medical equipment, jewelry, medicines and cosmetics, and food from Moscow. In return, the capital receives construction materials, furniture and lumber, as well as fish and canned fish, meat delicacies, vegetable oil, beverages, and milk. Businessmen from Karelia are actively involved in the implementation of the Moscow state order on an ongoing basis.

Cultural ties with the Republic of Karelia are no less significant. Thus, the Festival of the Peoples of the Republic of Karelia "Sampo Mill" is held at VDNH, dedicated to their distinctive history, traditions and culture. With the support of Moscow, Karelia is expanding its opportunities in the field of tourism — in particular, information about Karelian routes appears on the digital travel service RUSSPASS. And in October 2025, the theme train "Karelia is a place where strength returns" was launched on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya metro line.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
