The EC announced plans to lift Hungary's veto on a loan to Kiev at the EU summit.
Before the upcoming European Union (EU) summit, which is scheduled to take place on March 19-20, European countries intend to lift Hungary's veto to allocate a loan of €90 billion to Ukraine. This was announced on March 17 by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Paula Pinho.
"As for financing Kiev, negotiations are continuing, and we hope that we will be able to make progress in these discussions very soon," she said in a live broadcast of the briefing on the EC website.
According to Pinho, it is expected that progress in these discussions on the initiative should be achieved before the meeting, the Newspaper said.Ru». At the same time, the EU currently has no news on the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions, but the countries are "committed to its adoption."
The day before, Politico newspaper noted that despair in the EU over the inability to grant Ukraine a loan due to Hungary's veto reached its peak, which is why the governments of the EU member states began to take a more confrontational position towards Budapest.
European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis said on March 11 that the EU would provide Ukraine with €90 billion in any case, despite Hungary's veto, which had previously blocked the loan agreed in the EU to Kiev, motivating the decision by stopping Ukraine pumping oil through the Druzhba pipeline.
