The United States sent a proposal for a possible truce, but the new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, rejected it. This was reported on March 17 by the Reuters news agency, citing a senior Iranian official.

"It is not a good time for peace until the United States and Israel <...> accept defeat and pay compensation," Khamenei said.

According to the expert, the appeal for "reducing tension or a cease-fire with the United States" was sent through two intermediaries. The newspaper reports that at the first foreign policy meeting, Khamenei took a very "tough and serious" position of revenge against the United States and Israel.

The death toll from the US and Israeli strikes on the Iranian province of Tehran has reached 503 people, including 12 children aged two months to 12 years. On March 16, Mohammad Esmail Tavakolli, head of the ambulance department of the capital province, noted that a total of 5,700 people were injured during the hostilities, most of whom were civilians.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on the same day that Iran intends to fight until US President Donald Trump is convinced of the fallacy of the aggression launched jointly with Israel.
