Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Iranian Basij militia forces, was eliminated in Tehran. This was announced on March 17 by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

"In a precise strike on Tehran, the IDF killed the commander of the Basij unit yesterday [March 16]," the Israeli army's Telegram channel says.

It is noted that this unit is part of the armed structure of Iran and played a key role in suppressing internal protests in the country, using harsh methods against demonstrators.

According to the source, Soleimani's elimination was another serious blow to the Iranian regime's governance and security system.

"The IDF will continue to act with determination against the commanders of the Iranian terrorist regime," the Israeli army concluded.

The day before, the IDF attacked more than 200 targets in western and central Iran in a day. It was noted that among the targets hit were command centers, missile defense systems, as well as weapons depots.

Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth announced on March 13 that the US and Israeli Air Forces had struck a total of more than 15,000 targets on Iranian territory. According to him, the countries have hit the entire production of ballistic missiles in Iran, and now Tehran can only use previously manufactured missiles.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
