Dmitriev predicted disaster in the EU due to rising gas prices
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that the European Union (EU) expects a sharp rise in gas prices in 2026, which will create serious risks for industry and households. On March 17, he wrote about this on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Dmitriev referred to HSBC's forecast that natural gas prices in Europe would be 40% higher than previously expected levels. According to him, this is only the beginning of a more serious crisis.
"We forecast at least 100% higher than previously forecast, as Europe needs time to inevitably ask for more Russian gas," the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund wrote.
Dmitriev on March 16 allowed oil prices to rise above $150 per barrel in the coming weeks. In this way, Dmitriev reacted to an article in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) newspaper, which states that the heads of oil companies from the United States warned the government about the possible aggravation of the energy crisis related to the conflict in Iran.
