- Residents of St. Petersburg were warned about a possible shutdown of the mobile Internet
In St. Petersburg, it is possible to disable the mobile Internet for security reasons. This was announced on March 17 on the website of the Committee on Informatization and Communications of the city government.
"For security reasons, mobile Internet outages are possible in the city," the report says.
Residents are advised to use urban Wi-Fi "SPB_FREE" to access the Internet. A map of the access points has been published on the committee's official website. Authorization in the network is carried out using a mobile phone number.
Residents of the Moscow region were warned on March 14 about interruptions to the Internet and mobile communications. It was clarified that during periods of mobile Internet restrictions, access to socially significant resources of the region will be provided in case of threats of drone attacks.
On February 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law obliging telecom operators to disconnect networks at the request of the FSB in the prescribed cases. The document notes that operators will not be responsible for communication outages if the network outage is related to the FSB requirement.
