The head of the State Council of Tatarstan, Farid Mukhametshin, left his post ahead of schedule. This was reported on March 17 in the press service of the parliament.

"I have made a difficult decision and officially announce the resignation of the deputy and chairman of the Parliament of the Republic of Tatarstan," he said in a statement.

Mukhametshin has served as speaker since 1998.
