On March 19, the distribution company Pro:Vzglyad releases a sparkling detective story starring "The Silence of the Lambs" star Jodie Foster. "The Silence of the Lambs" star Jodie Foster stars in a sparkling detective story where psychoanalysis is not therapy, but evidence.

The famous psychoanalyst Lilian Steiner is used to knowing everything about her patients. But the sudden death of one of them makes her doubt it. Together with her charming and insufferable ex-husband, Lillian takes on her own investigation. And discovers that it was better not to know some of the patients' secrets.

After iconic roles in "The Silence of the Lambs" and "True Detective," audience favorite Jodie Foster returns to the role of a detective. This time, she plays a psychoanalyst who decides to investigate the mysterious death of her patient. The dynamic investigation gradually turns into a game with the viewer, who, together with the heroine, collects evidence, doubts the versions and plunges deeper into the mystery of psychoanalysis.

In the film, psychoanalysis is used as a detective tool: every therapy session is a potential clue. The film accurately reproduces the logic of the profession: a psychoanalyst knows how to listen between the lines, notice what a person does not say out loud. This is what makes Lillian the perfect detective — and at the same time makes the investigation personal.

In intonation, "Private Life" is closest to the detective stories of Agatha Christie and the ironic detectives of Woody Allen — the intellectual heroine conducts her own investigation in a beautiful city, getting into absurd situations.

"Private Life" is released at a time when interest in psychology in Russia has reached its peak: the series "Trigger", "Psycho", "Mediator" have formed an audience that looks at the profession from the inside. Freud became a cult figure, and psychoanalysis became part of everyday language. Against this background, the story of a psychoanalyst who finds himself on the other side of the session sounds particularly accurate.

For the two-time Oscar winner and one of Hollywood's most popular actresses, "Private Life" has become a special project. Foster has been fluent in French since childhood, but has never played a lead role entirely in French until now.

"I was looking for a film that works with ideas, with the life of the mind. And I found it in Rebecca. It's a big movie, for her and for me," Foster says.

Foster's screen partners were the stars of the first magnitude of French cinema. The role of the main character's ex—husband was played by Daniel Otoy, whose duet with Foster critics called one of the main discoveries of the film. Mathieu Amalric plays the husband of the deceased, and the role of the patient herself was played by Virginie Efira.

Rebecca Zlotowski (born 1980, Paris) is a French film director and screenwriter. Her films have been repeatedly selected for the Cannes and Venice Film Festivals. Among the works: "My Wonderful Summer with Sophie" (Directors' Fortnight, Cannes), "Facets of Love" (Main Competition, Venice), "Planetarium" (Venice).
