St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise Gorelektrotrans has already begun to implement it through the installation of RFID tags for trams, Delovoy Peterburg writes. The city's transport committee explained that they are testing various geo-positioning options that differ from those currently in effect. After the completion of the pilot projects, a decision will be made on which option is most suitable. Then it will be centrally applied to all types of transport.

The publication clarifies that RFID equipment consists of readers and tags. Readers are installed on the vehicle, and tags are installed on tracks, poles, or traffic lights. Buses and electric buses are not connected to a contact network or rails, so it is problematic for them to place readers.

Transtelematics Service Center LLC offered its own solution to the problem. According to Mikhail Kazakov, CEO of the company, technological holes with a depth of about 10 cm remain on the updated asphalt, which can be used to install tags. One such marker can "cover" up to three lanes of traffic.

For the introduction of technology in the city, the approval of the scientific and technical council and financing are needed, Kazakov noted.

However, some experts see possible difficulties in using the scheme. So, with any violations, small cracks may appear on the canvas.
