Russians were warned about seasonal scenarios of fraudulent schemes

Scammers have become more active in using seasonal deception scenarios since the beginning of vacations, vacations, and travel. This was announced on March 17 in the Telegram channel of the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.

"Scammers post ads with job offers. When applying for a job, they may ask you to transfer sensitive data or make an advance payment, take an installment plan, and sometimes involve you in a fraudulent scheme," the department said.

Also, the attackers, through fake websites of travel agencies, children's camps and sanatoriums, offer users vouchers at a bargain price and ask them to make an advance payment. After the transfer of money, communication with them stops. Scammers also use fake QR codes on scooters and bicycles.

In addition, as noted in the department, the attackers pose as employees of educational institutions and offer to check exam results or confirm admission data, trying to get codes from SMS messages or account data.

On March 16, the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation warned about a two-stage fraudulent scheme with SMS bombers. The agency clarified that this is a way to distract the victim and prepare for a subsequent call. The scammers cause a panic, and then they call, posing as an employee of a bank or the Gosuslug portal.

On March 15, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that Russian citizens have become better at recognizing schemes used by remote scammers and responding more calmly to critical situations, which was made possible by a number of bans and new rules introduced in 2023.
