- Helicopter pilots of the Northern Fleet conducted exercises to destroy a submarine in the Barents Sea
Crews of Ka-27M anti-submarine helicopters from the separate naval anti-submarine helicopter regiment of the mixed aviation corps of the Northern Fleet conducted exercises to search, detect and subsequently destroy a simulated enemy submarine in the Barents Sea. This was reported on March 17 in the press service of the Northern Fleet.
During the training sorties, the military personnel were able to conduct a full cycle of anti-submarine exercises. So, at the initial stage, the pilots worked out the search for the submarine, for these purposes, standard radar and sonar equipment were used.
"As part of the tactical flight exercise, we carried out several sorties to practice anti-submarine tasks. They searched for the submarine by setting up a field of radio hydroacoustic buoys (RGB— Ed.), and also practiced setting up intercepting barriers in various ways in order to reveal the presence of a submarine in the Barents Sea," said Mark, the navigator of the Ka-27M helicopter.
Then, to detect the target, the pilots began to create a sonar field by dropping the RGB.
"Each of the radio hydroacoustic buoys is capable of listening to the water column within a radius of several kilometers," the Northern Fleet said.
Also, to more accurately determine the coordinates of the simulated enemy's substrate, a lowered sonar station (GAS). It allows you to effectively detect underwater objects at various depths. After classifying the submarine and confirming its coordinates, the military conducted a tactical torpedo of the target.
One of the nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet acted as an "enemy" submarine. During the exercises, with her maneuvers at various depths, she created conditions as close as possible to real combat.
"Such exercises are conducted in accordance with the combat training plan and are aimed at maintaining high professional training of flight personnel and improving anti—submarine training skills in difficult conditions of the Arctic and the Far North," the Northern Fleet summed up.
On March 12, the Kazan nuclear-powered submarine missile cruiser of the Northern Fleet fired an Onyx cruise missile at a sea target from an underwater position as part of planned combat training activities. The target, which designated the ship of the imaginary enemy, was located at a distance of up to 300 km in the Barents Sea. Objective control footage shows that the head of the Onyx missile hit a naval target.
On November 18, the Russian Navy and the Myanmar Navy conducted joint exercises Marumex-2025 in the Andaman Sea. From Russia, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov, the corvette Gremyashchy and the tanker Boris Butoma were present — all of them belong to the detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet.
