Ethiopian Prime Minister urges citizens to save fuel due to conflict in Iran

Citizens and businesses in Ethiopia need to save fuel due to the energy crisis amid the war in Iran. This was announced on March 16 by the Prime Minister of the Republic Abiy Ahmed.

"Due to the crisis in the Middle East, countries that purchase and use fuel have faced difficulties in obtaining sufficient quantities. <...> In this regard, I want to remind fuel distributors, gas stations and consumers of the need to use fuel sparingly," he wrote on his page on the social network X (former. Twitter).

Ahmed explained that the economy regime in Ethiopia will remain in place until the problem with energy supplies is resolved. According to him, priority in fuel consumption should be given to "basic needs." The prime minister did not specify what exactly is meant by this, but called for using resources "with a sense of responsibility."

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed by phone with Ahmed issues of bilateral cooperation, including in the fields of politics and economics. The Kremlin clarified that during the conversation, the parties confirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthen friendly Russian-Ethiopian relations. An agreement was also reached to intensify contacts between relevant ministries and departments.

In addition, Putin sent a telegram of condolences to the Ethiopian authorities in connection with the consequences of landslides and floods in the south of the country. The Russian leader asked to convey words of sympathy and support to the families of the victims, and wishes to all the injured to recover as soon as possible.
