- The political scientist appreciated Iran's statements about Ukraine's involvement in the conflict.
Ivan Pyatibratov, an associate professor at the Financial University and a leading analyst at the Center for Political Information, said that Iran's statements that Ukraine could become a legitimate target of strikes were a reaction to the words of Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky about his readiness to help the United States and Arab countries in countering Iranian drones.
In an interview with the News Mail on Monday, March 16, the expert noted that Iran is demonstrating its readiness to consider Ukraine as a side supporting the United States and Israel, but it does not plan to launch strikes on its territory in the near future.
According to him, Tehran is currently focused on confronting the United States and preserving its own statehood, so Ukraine is not a priority target. The expert believes that Iran's statements are rather rhetorical in nature and are a response to Vladimir Zelensky's words about helping the United States and Arab countries in the fight against Iranian drones.
Pyatibratov added that in this way Iran also demonstrates support for Russia, an important partner for him. At the same time, he noted that Moscow is unlikely to be actively involved in the Middle East conflict.
The expert also pointed out that Tehran's reaction may make Kiev think, but Ukrainian specialists have been working in the Middle East, including Syria, and interacting with Israel for a long time.
In general, in his opinion, Iran's response to Zelensky is an element of diplomacy.: Tehran is strengthening contacts with Russia and demonstrating its readiness to respond to the actions of other states.
Earlier on March 16, Iran called Ukraine a legitimate target of the strikes because of its support for Israel. The British edition of the Daily Express noted that the reason for the escalation was Vladimir Zelensky's intention to send Ukrainian specialists to the Middle East to counter Iranian drones, Moscow 24 clarifies.
