- Trump announced strikes on three factories for the production of missiles and drones in Iran
The US military has attacked three facilities of Iran's military-industrial complex related to the production of missiles and drones. This was announced on March 16 by US President Donald Trump.
"They have (Iran. — Ed.) There are not many missiles left. We also attacked factories where they produced missiles and drones, and this continues today. Today we have hit only three of them," he said at a lunch with the board of directors of the Trump-Kennedy Center.
Trump also said that since the beginning of the conflict, the United States has hit more than 7,000 targets in Iran, mostly of a commercial and military nature. According to him, this has reduced the number of launches of Iranian ballistic missiles by 90%, and the number of attacks using drones by 95%.
According to the US president, American forces destroyed more than 30 Iranian minesweeping ships that could have been used to block the Strait of Hormuz. He warned that any attempts by Iran to "mine the strait will lead to severe consequences."
"We hit all of them (Iran. — Ed.) mineships. <...> It will be very bad for them if they drop mines into the Strait. — Ed.) They will. It's a form of suicide," he said.
The American leader added that over the past week and a half, more than 100 Iranian naval vessels have been sunk or destroyed. He also stated that the US army had completely destroyed the island of Kharq, where the oil used by the Iranian army was located.
"Our powerful military campaign to eliminate the threats posed by the Iranian regime has continued in full force over the past few days. They (Iran. — Ed.) were literally destroyed. The Air Force has been destroyed. The Navy has been destroyed. Many ships have been sunk," Trump added.
On the same day, the 19FortyFive portal reported that Iran's attacks using inexpensive drones are putting a serious strain on the American air defense system, depleting stocks of expensive interceptor missiles. It is noted that American air defense systems use interceptor missiles worth from $3 to $12 million each to destroy these drones.
On March 14, Trump appealed to countries that depend on oil supplied through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the safety of this transport route. In addition, he noted that a number of countries have plans to send warships to ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also called on Britain, China, South Korea, France and Japan to support such an effort.
A representative of the central headquarters of the Iranian Armed Forces, Khatam al-Anbiya, said on March 15 that Iran was ready to use any methods, including controlling the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, to force the enemy to surrender.
