Russia is ready to contribute to a long-term and sustainable settlement of the conflict in the Middle East and calls on all parties to cease hostilities. This was announced on March 16 by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"We are ready, taking into account the opportunities available to the Russian Federation, to contribute to a long—term and sustainable settlement of the conflict," the ministry said in an official statement on its website.

It is noted that the attack by the United States and Israel on Iran provoked an unprecedented round of violence, which led to numerous casualties and large-scale destruction of civilian infrastructure. The ministry stressed that neighboring countries are also suffering due to Iran's retaliatory strikes, and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz has been paralyzed, which negatively affects the global economy.

"At the same time, instead of searching for ways to de—escalate and return to negotiations, there is further mutual bitterness, and more deadly and destructive strikes are being launched," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Moscow renews its insistent appeal to all parties to the conflict to immediately stop the fighting and bring the situation back to a "political and diplomatic course."

On the same day, at a press conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that all parties to the conflict in the Middle East should cease hostilities, as they lead to civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. The Russian Foreign Minister also confirmed that Moscow is ready to take on a mediating role in resolving the Iranian crisis, if necessary.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added on March 12 that Russia confirms Iran's right to self-defense and calls on the United States and Israel to stop the aggression. She also drew attention to the humanitarian situation. According to her, Moscow assesses it as "extremely difficult." There are already more than a thousand victims in Iran.
