The political scientist announced the collapse of the US coalition
The refusal by Britain and Germany of US President Donald Trump's request for help in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz indicates the collapse of the coalition. This opinion was expressed by political scientist Alexander Asafov on Monday, March 16.
The expert noted that since these countries are the main buyers of oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz, they, according to the American leader, should be engaged in unblocking it.
"He called on them to take part in this, but the countries do not have the strength, means and capabilities. In addition, they consider themselves not the beneficiaries of the conflict in the Middle East, but the victims," the political scientist said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to Asafov, an operation in the Strait of Hormuz would be very risky for Germany and Britain, which do not have many carrier strike groups to fulfill Trump's request.
"They don't understand why, receiving economic damage from the actions of the United States, they have to clean up after them. So Germany and France are just waiting for everything to settle down, and Trump's coalition is falling apart. The allies do not understand why this chaos was necessary, except for Trump's principled defense of Israel," he concluded.
Earlier on March 16, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer refused to send warships to the Strait of Hormuz after Trump's request. 360.ru . France, Germany and South Korea have also expressed reluctance to send ships.
On the same day, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, said that the EU foreign ministers would discuss sending warships to the Strait of Hormuz, according to the website. kp.ru . According to her, the closure of the strait is dangerous for the EU due to a reduction in fertilizer supplies, which could lead to food shortages in Europe next year, RT reports.
On March 15, Trump said that NATO faces a "very bad future" if the participating countries refuse to help the United States in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, Regnum news agency reports.
This statement was made after the American leader called on the United Kingdom, China, South Korea, France and Japan to jointly ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
On March 14, the American president appealed to countries that depend on oil supplied through the Strait of Hormuz to ensure the safety of this transport route. He also promised that the United States would work closely with these states to ensure that everything was done promptly and efficiently.
