Sales of new passenger cars in Russia decreased by 11% in a week
In Russia, from March 9 to March 15, 20.4 thousand passenger cars were registered, which is 10.5% less than a week earlier. At the same time, compared to the same week last year, the indicator increased by 17%, Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel on March 16.
"Last week was short, and the result is predictable. The car market in the 11th week showed a minus in relation to the record 10th week of the year, taking a step back. There was a small step in the passenger segment, but a full—fledged one in the commercial segment," Tselikov noted.
In the segment of light commercial vehicles (LCVs), a decrease was recorded by 8% compared to the previous week, and by 21.5% compared to the same week last year. A total of 1,238 new cars were registered.
As the analyst noted, in the truck segment, the indicators returned to their usual values — below 1 thousand units. A total of 157 medium-tonnage (MCVs) and 734 large-tonnage trucks (HCVs) were registered. The decrease was 33% compared to the previous week, and 27% compared to the same week last year.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that in February of this year, Russians' spending on new cars turned out to be the lowest in the last 11 months and amounted to 281 billion rubles. This figure is 15.8% higher than a year ago.
