An outbreak of the penultimate power class M2.8 was recorded on the Sun. This was announced on March 16 by the Institute of Applied Geophysics (FSBI "IPG").

"On March 16, at 15:15 Moscow time, an M2.8 flare lasting 32 minutes was recorded in the X—ray range in the 4392 (S14E19) spot group," the institute said in a statement on its website.

Depending on the X-ray power, solar flares are divided into five classes: A, B, C, M, and X. The minimum class A0.0 is the radiation power in Earth orbit of 10 NW per square meter.

When moving to the next letter, the power increases 10 times. Flares accompany solar plasma emissions, and when they reach the Earth, its clouds provoke the formation of magnetic storms.

In the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the Institute of Space Research (IKI) On March 16, the Russian Academy of Sciences indicated that the short-term surge in solar and geomagnetic activity had ended. According to scientists, the star produced two weak M-class flares, as well as about 30 minor C-class flares.
