The state prosecution requests that blogger Valeria Chekalina (Lercek) be given a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions and that her case be suspended due to her health condition. This was reported on March 16 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

In addition, the prosecutor requests that the case of Valeria Chekalina be separated into separate proceedings and that the case be changed in the same composition as that of Artyom Chekalin.

Earlier that day, Lercek's defense asked for the suspension of proceedings in the case of illegal withdrawal of funds abroad due to her serious health condition.

Prosecutor Natalia Kuzmina clarified that the hospital doctors assess Lercek's condition as moderate in severity. Earlier in the day, it was reported that Lercek was losing his eyesight and could go completely blind in one eye. The blogger's lawyer also clarified that the girl's serious illness prevents her from appearing in court.

On March 11, Chekalina began treatment at the state cancer Center. The next day, she was taken to a medical facility to begin a course of chemotherapy. Before that, on March 8, Lercek's lover Luis Squicciarini announced that she had cancer cells. In addition, she underwent spinal surgery due to the destruction of several vertebrae.

Lawyer Maxim Blinov told Izvestia on March 11 that the blogger could be released from punishment due to the presence of the disease. According to the lawyer, the court passes a verdict in any case, but if there are certain medical indications, the defendant may be released from punishment.
