Ukraine has informed the European Commission about the start of repair work on the Druzhba oil pipeline. This was announced on March 16 by European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen at a meeting of EU energy ministers.

"We had a meeting this morning with the Ukrainians, who said they were working as fast as they could to repair the pipeline," Jorgensen said, according to a recording posted on the European Commission (EC) website.

At the same time, he noted that Europe will continue to adhere to the decision to ban gas imports from Russia, and will also gradually abandon Russian oil.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said yesterday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would never resume oil supplies via the Druzhba pipeline. According to the prime minister, what is happening looks like Slovakia is being punished for its peaceful position and lack of support for military loans to Ukraine. Fico also accused Kiev of trying to convince the EU that Friendship was inoperable.

Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said on March 16 that Ukraine had canceled at the last moment trilateral consultations with the energy ministers of Hungary and Slovakia on the operation of the Druzhba oil pipeline. According to the Foreign Minister, there are only political reasons behind Kiev's refusal to reopen the pipeline, since from a technical point of view the pipeline is ready for operation.
