ATOR announced the return of all organized Russian tourists from the UAE
Russian tour operators have completed the export of all Russian tourists who vacationed in the UAE on package tours. This was announced on March 16 on the website of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
"The largest companies operating in the Middle East have completed their evacuation programs," the report says.
The main export process ended on March 15, and some companies finished returning tourists on March 12. One of the companies clarified that about 99% of tourists were taken out — the rest extended their stay and changed tickets for later dates.
It is noted that at the time of the escalation of the conflict on February 28, about 50 thousand Russian tourists were in the UAE. Approximately 23 thousand of them arrived in the country as part of organized package tours, and about 7 thousand more booked hotels from tour operators only, purchasing tickets on their own.
On March 11, ATOR announced the inclusion of over 15 organizations in the blacklist of Dubai hotels for the eviction of Russian tourists and a significant increase in prices for accommodation. It was clarified that such incidents had been brought to the attention of the Dubai authorities.
On March 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the removal of Russian citizens from the Middle East due to the worsening situation in the region. The head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, reported that since February 28, the airspace of 10 states has been closed, and more than 250 flights connected with Russia have been canceled. At the time of the outbreak of the conflict, there were 23.5 thousand organized tourists from the Russian Federation in the region, more than 90% of them in the UAE.
