In February of this year, Russians' spending on new cars turned out to be the lowest in the last 11 months and amounted to 281 billion rubles. This was reported on March 16 by TASS with reference to a study by Gazprombank Autoleasing and the analytical agency Autostat.

Over the last winter month, Russians spent 280.8 billion rubles on the purchase of new cars. This figure is 15.8% higher than a year ago, and it is also 0.4% less than a month earlier.

Most of the money was spent on Chinese brand cars, but their share is decreasing. In February, 31.1 thousand new Chinese cars worth 120.5 billion rubles were sold (a 42.9% share minus 3 percentage points by February).

Next in the ranking in terms of funds spent are Russian brands (63.3 billion rubles), European (43 billion rubles), Japanese (32.7 billion rubles), Korean (5 billion rubles) and American (4.4 billion rubles).

On March 5, it became known that in the first two months of 2026, more than half of the new passenger cars imported into Russia (53%) were through alternative supply channels. At the same time, the share of alternative imports was 46% over the past year, and less than 20% in 2024.
