The European Union (EU) has discredited itself, there is nothing in sight that could be constructively perceived with an eye to negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement. This was announced on March 16 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following a meeting with Kenyan Prime Minister Musalia Mudawadi.

"The European Union has already completely discredited itself. And I don't see, listening to the statements of the same French, the same Germans, the same Brussels bureaucrats, I don't see anything that could be perceived constructively with an eye to some progress in the negotiations," Lavrov said.

The minister stressed that Europe had several chances to reach an agreement, including in April 2022, when the Europeans dissuaded Ukraine from complying with the agreements reached in Istanbul.

He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stressed Russia's commitment to the negotiation process, but Kiev's unwillingness to engage in dialogue means that Russia will continue to achieve the goals of the special military operation.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 13 that the European Union hopes for an escalation of the Ukrainian conflict, as it is not succeeding in other areas. According to the diplomat, the European Commission (EC) is suppressing any efforts to find a peaceful solution to the conflict and is doing everything possible to ensure that the Kiev regime survives.

On February 23, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, following a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Union countries, put forward demands for the start of negotiations with Russia. According to her, the European Union's demands to Russia include the return of the allegedly abducted Ukrainian children.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, in turn, said on February 16 that a major threat to Russia's security comes from Europe's reckless and reckless policy aimed at confrontation. According to him, it is European politicians who are preventing a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, assuring Kiev that Russia can be strategically defeated.
