Ivan Kartashov, who was imprisoned in December 2024 for helping the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, was sentenced to 14 years in prison. This was announced on Monday, March 16, by the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg.
275.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Cooperation on a confidential basis with a foreign state, international or foreign organization") sent certain files to American intelligence. The communication was conducted by e-mail and through an unnamed messenger.
"Kartashov acknowledged the factual circumstances, but said that he wanted to deceive the other party and get the money. He added that he had not betrayed his homeland. <...> The court imposed a 14-year prison sentence in the penal colony. — Ed.) of strict regime," the ministry said in a statement on the MAX messenger.
The investigation and review of its results were conducted, as specified in the instance, in a closed format, as it was marked "Top secret". It is noted that in addition to imprisonment, the man was ordered to pay a fine of 400 thousand rubles.
On March 11, the FSB Public Relations Center announced the detention of a Russian citizen who was also in collusion with representatives of a foreign intelligence service. The man planned, on the instructions of the curators, to undermine military aviation equipment in the Vladimir region. It was clarified that the man's interlocutors from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) arranged for him to deliver drones, explosives, explosive devices and equipment to the Moscow and Kaluga regions.
