The defense of blogger Lerchek (real name Valeria Chekalin) asked to suspend the proceedings in the case of illegal withdrawal of funds abroad. This was announced on March 16 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.

"The defense is requesting the lifting of house arrest due to a serious health condition. A serious illness prevents her from appearing in court. The defense also requests that the proceedings be suspended until Chekalina recovers," the lawyer noted.

It was reported that the blogger is currently undergoing treatment at the state cancer center. She was diagnosed with cancer of the fourth degree.
