- The Security Council called for expanding the list of persons for mandatory genomic registration
The Interdepartmental Commission of the Security Council (SB) of the Russian Federation on public Security has considered a set of additional measures aimed at improving the effectiveness of the search for fugitives from criminal prosecution and missing citizens, the press service of the SB staff told Izvestia on March 16.
"It is considered expedient to legislatively regulate the expansion of the list of persons subject to mandatory genomic registration, providing for the inclusion in it of information about close relatives of persons who have fled from the investigation of suspects and accused, as well as about unknown patients and minors who could not provide information about their identity," the report says.
The ministry stressed the importance of taking additional measures to increase the level of cooperation during search activities aimed at finding missing citizens, including with volunteer organizations.
"Special attention is paid to information support for the investigative work of law enforcement agencies. At the same time, the need to update the Concept of Building and developing the Safe City hardware and software complex, approved in 2014, taking into account modern technological achievements, was noted. At the same time, it was instructed to develop specific measures for its implementation," the Russian Security Council noted.
In 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on mandatory genomic registration of relatives of missing people. Part 1 of Article 7 of the law also defines the circle of persons who must undergo mandatory genomic registration. It was stated that the genomic information would be stored until the missing person was found, but no more than 70 years.
