Blogger Valeria Chekalina, known under the pseudonym Lercek, who was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer, began undergoing radiation therapy. This was announced on March 16 by the father of her child, Luis Squicciarini.

"Radiation therapy begins today after the first chemistry," he wrote on his Instagram page (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia and banned).

On March 12, Chekalina was taken to a medical facility to begin a course of treatment, as well as chemotherapy.

It was also reported on March 13 that the Gagarin Court hearing in Moscow in the case of Lercek, accused of withdrawing money abroad, could be postponed from March 16 due to the defendant undergoing chemotherapy.

Lercek began treatment at the State Cancer Center on March 11. At the same time, lawyer Maxim Blinov told Izvestia that the blogger could be released from punishment due to the presence of the disease. According to the lawyer, the court passes a verdict in any case, but if there are certain medical indications, the defendant may be released from punishment.
