The easing of US sanctions on Russian oil sets a dangerous precedent. This was announced on March 16 by the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaya Kallas.

"We have seen the easing of US sanctions against Russian oil, this is a dangerous precedent," she said before the start of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, a recording of which was published on the website of the audiovisual service of the European Commission.

According to Kallas, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is also beneficial to Moscow, so the EU needs to make efforts to unblock it.

She also stressed that despite the worsening situation in the Middle East, attention should not be distracted from the events in Ukraine. Kallas added that the European Union should continue to focus on supporting Kiev and not allow other conflicts to reduce the level of attention to the special operation in Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, spoke about the possible transfer of the Aspides naval mission to the Strait of Hormuz. According to her, problems with oil and gas supplies through the strait are beneficial to Russia due to rising energy prices.

Yesterday, The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration of US President Donald Trump plans to announce the formation of a coalition to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz blocked by Iran. It is specified that discussions are currently underway when the escort of vessels will begin.
