More than half of Russians admitted to having a negative attitude towards AI
Most Russians have a negative attitude towards the use of artificial intelligence by other people, despite the fact that they themselves actively use neural networks. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the financial marketplace <url>, which was reviewed by Izvestia on March 23.
The survey was conducted among 3.5 thousand residents of Russian cities with a population of one million and was devoted to the use of neural networks and attitudes towards the use of artificial intelligence by others. According to the study, 58% of respondents regularly use neural networks. Another 23% do this from time to time, 12% rarely, and 7% reported that they had never used such technologies.
Artificial intelligence is most often used for work, 57% of users answered this way. Another 26% use neural networks to solve everyday problems, while 17% use them exclusively for entertainment purposes.
At the same time, the attitude towards the use of neural networks by other people is more often negative. Thus, 69% of respondents who regularly use artificial intelligence themselves said that they can immediately recognize the signs of its use and experience rejection when they are detected.
The most pronounced negative attitude was recorded among residents of Moscow — 59% of respondents reported it. Similar sentiments were noted among residents of St. Petersburg (43%), Nizhny Novgorod (39%) and Kazan (38%). The lowest share of negative attitudes was recorded in Krasnodar (16%), Rostov-on-Don (13%) and Volgograd (7%). In total, 51% of respondents in Russia have a negative attitude towards the use of neural networks.
The respondents were also asked in which situations the use of artificial intelligence causes the most irritation. Respondents are most often annoyed by the use of neural networks when writing texts, including posts on social networks — 39% of the survey participants reported this. Another 29% consider it unacceptable for doctors to use artificial intelligence when making a diagnosis. AI tutors (12%), creativity using artificial intelligence (11%), and chatbots and AI assistants on company websites (9%) also cause negative reactions.
"The use of neural networks has long been part of the everyday life of Russians. Some use them to solve work tasks, others calculate a diet and vacation plan, and others use them to generate funny pictures and other content. Large companies also strive to use them to provide the client with modern service, and we are no exception here. However, as we can see from the survey, the more often people use intelligent assistants in practice, the higher the proportion of rejection of their use by others," said the director of the Department of communication policy of the financial marketplace "Choose.<url>" by Anna Romanenko.
Andrey Grigoriev, Acting Head of the I.G. Dobrodomov Department of General Linguistics at Moscow Pedagogical State University, said on March 12 that texts that were created using artificial intelligence (AI) can be recognized by their pattern, frequent semantic repetitions and clear structure. According to the expert, the generated texts may look too smooth and grammatically correct, but they often contain inaccurate or fictitious facts.
