Two 19-year-old young men were detained in Moscow, who were engaged in servicing fraudulent call centers, providing communication between intruders and potential victims. This was announced on Monday, March 16, by the press service of the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the capital.
"In rented apartments in the north-east of the capital, operatives of the criminal investigation department and the FSB detained natives of the Saratov region. They played the role of technical specialists: they monitored the operation of GSM gateways and changed hundreds of SIM cards on time so that the scammers would have uninterrupted communication with the victims," the agency said in a message on the MAX messenger.
The young people, as it turned out later, living on Berezovaya Alley Street, received 200 new SIM cards from their supervisors every day, and also kept three GSM gateways and SIM boxes. They also managed over 1,000 SIM cards, which have been actively used over the past three days.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 274.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Illegal use of a subscriber terminal for traffic access or a virtual telephone exchange"). The defendants are currently under arrest, and representatives of the operational services are identifying victims of the fraudsters' actions.
