The referendum in Kazakhstan complied with the requirements of the legislation, no violations were recorded, Oleg Kopylov, head of the mission of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Deputy Secretary General of the SCO, said at a briefing on March 16.
"The mission states that the republican referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan complied with the requirements of the electoral legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the international obligations assumed by the country. The mission did not record any violations of national legislation that could cast doubt on the legitimacy of the referendum or influence its results," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The vote for the adoption of the new Constitution was held on March 15, and its final text was published on February 12.
On the same day, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that a record turnout was recorded at the completed referendum on the new Constitution. He voted in the referendum on March 15. Tokayev came to the polling station in the Schoolchildren's Palace in Astana, where, after voting, he held a briefing for journalists, where he stressed the exceptional importance of the referendum for the future development of the state.
